Saatchi Art’s The Other Art Fair Chicago Announces Its Spring 2019 Artist Lineup and Programming

Featuring Chicago-based Guest Artist Sandra Antongiorgi, Local Non-profit Little Black Pearl, and The Other Art Fair’s “Greener Future” 2019 Global Initiative

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Saatchi Art’s The Other Art Fair (“The Fair”), a leading international fair championing independent emerging artists, announces its features and programming for its second edition in Chicago. The Other Art Fair will run from May 16-19, 2019 at Mana Contemporary showcasing over 120 emerging international and local artists. The programming for this edition includes Chicago-local Sandra Antongiorgi, singer, songwriter, and painter as the official Guest Artist. Joining as the official non-profit partner is Little Black Pearl, an organization that provides healing through art and serves youth and families in the south side neighborhoods of Chicago. The Fair will also introduce “Greener Future,” its 2019 global initiative promoting a multifaceted approach to eco-sustainability in the arts.

“We are honored to work with such amazing Chicago-local artists and activists who are inspiring the next generation to express themselves through art,” said Founder of The Other Art Fair, Ryan Stanier. “There is no limit to the talent and creativity of the city and we’re excited to see that shine through once again in Pilsen.”

Guest Artist Sandra Antongiorgi is a Chicago-based singer, songwriter, and painter originally from Puerto Rico. Known primarily for her gifted use of paint, and formation of concept, Antongiorgi has contributed to scores of murals that dot the Chicago cityscape. She has been applauded for her collaboration on Aurelio Díaz’s Galería del Barrio mural, ‘Weaving Cultures’ at 16th and Blue Island, an element attendees will see incorporated at The Fair. Her work has been showcased in several museums and exhibitions, including The National Museum of Mexican Art, Zhou B Gallery and most recently a solo exhibit at Advocate & Gochis Galleries in Los Angeles and the Center on Halsted Gallery.

The Other Art Fair’s official non-profit partner, Little Black Pearl, will feature ‘Treasures and Troves’ to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The exhibition will feature a collection of glass sculptures, acrylic paintings, photography and graphics created by their students to emulate the colors, fluidity and peacefulness of an aquatic environment.

As part of a global effort to reduce environmental footprint, The Other Art Fair will join its sister fairs in Greener Future, a new multi-faceted initiative which includes a collaboration with Broadcaster and Global Head of Collections at Soho House & Co. Kate Bryan. This worldwide initiative aims to inspire a much-needed discussion on climate change through eco-progressive and environmentally friendly projects that attendees can participate in onsite.

Below are some of the highlighted features:

Sandra Antongiorgi, Chicago-based singer, songwriter, and painter originally from Puerto Rico, will join The Fair as the official Guest Artist. Antongiorgi draws upon life experiences, power relationships, culture, boundaries, mysticism and spirituality when creating her artwork. Her work has been showcased in several museums and exhibitions, including The National Museum of Mexican Art, Zhou B Gallery and most recently a solo exhibit at Advocate & Gochis Galleries in Los Angeles and the Center on Halsted Gallery. A limited edition print of ‘Weaving Cultures’ will be available for purchase for $200 at The Fair.

Little Black Pearl, a nonprofit serving youth in Chicago’s south side neighborhoods works to counter the challenges urban youth face by providing a safe environment, positive role models, rigorous art programs and skill development activities. At The Fair, Little Black Pearl will present ‘Treasures and Troves,’ an exhibition showcasing artwork by their students in celebration of their 25th anniversary year. The exhibition will feature hanging sculptures from their glass-blowing studio inspired by the theme of ‘underwater’.

Curated by Kate Bryan, Broadcaster & Head of Collections for Soho House & Co. The Fair’s Greener Future global initiative will debut Art Upcycle, Reuse, and Feedback wall programs. Art Upcycle encourages attendees to bring an unloved artwork and for $95 revive it with new touches by Sam Kirk, Meghan Borah, Badass Cross Stitch, Melissa Leandro, and Whit Forrester. Reuse enables fair-goers to purchase a reusable drinking cup for $10 featuring new artwork by David Shrigley. While the Feedback Wall creates a space for attendees to share ideas for how we can all build a greener future as part of this interactive display.

The Fair presents a series of creative workshops in Chicago led by local artists and makers. Attendees can tap into their inner creative while enjoying delicious cocktails made by bar experts. Workshop tickets cost $5 and attendees must be 21 years or older, advance booking is advised and available, here.

AMFM, a Chicago-based collective committed to supporting emerging and established interdisciplinary artists, will present at the Friday Late with three performers and live DJ set.
