The U.K.’s Leading Art Fair for Emerging Artists Kicks Off the Summer
in New York Featuring Over 100 Local and International Emerging Artists
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Other Art Fair (TOAF), the U.K.’s leading art fair for discovering
emerging artists, is increasing its global presence with its first U.S.
edition, taking place in New York June 1-4 at the Brooklyn Expo Center.
Unlike traditional art fairs that cater to galleries, The Other Art Fair
gives buyers unparalleled direct access to up and coming emerging
artists, and pairs emerging art with experiential programming, appealing
to a new generation of art collectors. TOAF’s U.S. debut will host over
100 emerging artists and a number of interactive experiences.
With an average price of $300 for original works, The Other Art Fair’s
accessible and varied selection of artworks makes it easy for art lovers
to begin collecting and provides a carefully curated platform for artist
discovery. TOAF has seen annual onsite attendance in its overseas fairs
grow more than 300% since its first fair in 2011. Given this success,
hosting a fair in New York is a natural location for expansion in the
U.S.
The Saatchi Art Talks Program, led by Saatchi Art’s Chief Curator and
Selection Committee member Rebecca Wilson will be hosted in The Saatchi
Art Lounge, where artists, collectors and cultural influencers will
gather to discuss a range of topics relating to the emerging art scene.
Artist Amit Greenberg will be doing a live drawing in the lounge and
attendees will be gifted limited edition tote bags featuring an original
artwork by Greenberg created exclusively for the fair. Additionally,
artist and entrepreneur Cory Zwerlein of Still
Alive Lights will demonstrate 3D printed solar powered artworks and
functional sculptures over the course of the weekend.
Marina Gluckman, founder and director of 6BASE, a rotating artists’
studio and exhibition program located in the South Bronx, will serve as
the Guest Curator for The Other Art Fair New York, curating a special
selection of artwork by Brooklyn-based artists.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore creative installations by
“must know” local artists, including a large-scale wallpaper
installation by Jay Pluck, a still-life installation by Joel Fennell,
complete with handmade wallpaper, vintage furnishings and thriving
greenery in collaboration with The Sill, and a video art piece exploring
the poetic relation of memory and experience by Justin Davies Anderson.
Bulleit
Frontier Whiskey is a proud partner of The Other Art Fair New York,
offering guests samples from the Bulleit portfolio and Bulleit-based
cocktails at the Bulleit Woody Trailer. TOAF New York will also feature
the first ever tattoo billboard crafted completely from tattoo ink and
designed by 24 LA tattoo artists.
As part of the interactive elements of the fair, tattoo artist Rosa
Bluestone Perr will create hand-poked tattoos featuring designs
exclusive to The Other Art Fair, and attendees will get to see The
Guardian’s “6x9: virtual experience of solitary confinement,” an
interactive segregation cell meant to recreate the psychological
deterioration and sensory deprivation of solitary confinement.
Neopolitan
Express will be cooking up its signature pizza, as the official food
partner, while Café
Grumpy will be offering daily caffeine fixes and Brooklyn-based Sixpoint
Brewery will serve its signature craft brews.
The Other Art Fair New York has also partnered with Free
Arts NYC as the fair’s official Charity Partner. In support of Free
Arts NYC, TOAF will donate 100% of net revenue from ticket sales for the
Private View event on June 1 to benefit the organization.
The artists featured at The Other Art Fair are chosen by a panel of
influential art experts and tastemakers to ensure fair goers are given
access to the most promising and talented roster of local and
international emerging artists. This year’s U.S. selection committee
includes: Rebecca Wilson (Chief Curator at Saatchi Art), Solana Chehtman
(Associate Director of Public Engagement at Friends of the High
Line), Elizabeth Ferrer (Vice President, Contemporary Art at
BRIC), Rachel Miller (Contributing Editor for Brooklyn Magazine), Peter
MacGill (President of Pace/MacGill Gallery) and Matthew
Nichols (Associate Professor at Christie’s Education in New York).
