Saatchi Art's The Other Art Fair Brooklyn Announces Its Spring 2019 Artist Lineup and Programming

Feature Highlights Include World-Renowned National Geographic Photographer, Cristina Mittermeier, Non-Profit Partner SeaLegacy, and The Other Art Fair’s “Greener Future” 2019 Global Initiative

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 23, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Saatchi Art’s The Other Art Fair (“The Fair”), a leading international art fair championing emerging and independent contemporary artists, announces its features and programming for the fifth edition in Brooklyn. The Other Art Fair Brooklyn will run from May 2-5, 2019 at the Brooklyn Expo Center, where 130 artists from around the world will showcase their works. The programming for this edition includes Cristina Mittermeier, an award-winning photographer, speaker, and explorer for National Geographic as Guest Artist presented by SeaLegacy as the official non-profit partner. The Other Art Fair will also introduce “Greener Future,” its 2019 global initiative promoting a multifaceted approach to eco-sustainability in the arts.                                                                      

Cristina Mittermeier, photographer, speaker, and activist for National Geographic will join The Other Art Fair Brooklyn as Guest Artist. In addition to working with big brands like Sony, she is internationally known as one of the World’s Top 40 Most Influential Outdoor Photographers, according to Outdoor Magazine, and was named one of National Geographic’s 2018 Adventurers of the Year. She is presented by SeaLegacy, the official non-profit partner of The Other Art Fair Brooklyn. SeaLegacy strives to create healthy and abundant oceans for everyone and for the planet. In an effort to spark a global conversation and inspire people to act, SeaLegacy produces powerful media and art that aims to empower and ignite hope.

As part of a global effort to reduce environmental footprint, The Other Art Fair Brooklyn will join its sister fairs in Greener Future, a new multi-faceted initiative which includes a collaboration with Broadcaster and Global Head of Collections at Soho House & Co. Kate Bryan. This worldwide initiative aims to inspire a much-needed discussion on climate change through eco-progressive and environmentally friendly projects that attendees can participate in at The Fair.

The Fair will also feature a central bar with wine, beer, cocktails and soft beverages, as well as a full café presented by Di An Di, Cafe Grumpy and artisanal ice cream by Van Leeuwen.

GUEST ARTIST CRISTINA MITTERMEIER: NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHER
Preview breathtaking photography by Cristina Mittermeier, a contributing photographer, speaker, and explorer for National Geographic. She’s been awarded numerous awards and accolades including the Mission Award from the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), the Smithsonian Conservation Photographer of the Year Award, and the Imaging Award for Photographers who Give Back. Cristina Mittermeier is presented by SeaLegacy, the official non-profit partner for The Fair.

NON-PROFIT PARTNER: SEALEGACY
SeaLegacy, a non-profit that strives to create healthy and abundant oceans for everyone and for the planet has partnered with Bluestone Babe, a handpoked tattoo artist who takes up residency onsite at The Fair, to create underwater-inspired tattoo designs with 30% of the profits benefiting the non-profit.

GREENER FUTURE
Curated by Kate Bryan, Broadcaster & Head of Collections for Soho House & Co. The Fair’s Greener Future global initiative will debut Art Upcycle, Reuse, and Feedback wall programs. Art Upcycle encourages attendees to bring an unloved artwork and for $100 revive it with new touches by artists Zoe Buckman, Antoinette Wysocki-Sanchez, Alexandre Singh, Jon Burgerman, and Scooter La Forge. Reuse enables fair-goers to purchase a reusable drinking cup for $10 featuring new artwork by David Shrigley. While the Feedback Wall creates a space for attendees to share ideas for how we can all build a greener future as part of this interactive display.

FRIDAY LATE PRESENTED BY SECRET PROJECT ROBOT
Guests will enjoy an audio and visual curation program of electrifying DJ sets and live radio broadcasting. Additionally, Brooklyn based art space, Secret Project Robot will curate a series of performances on Friday, May 3rd from 6pm-10pm. Highlights include FLUCT, a movement based performance, Ashcan Orchestra, a sound performance, and Dan Friel, an ambient sound artist.

TIM ANDREW’S ‘HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WALL’
With markers and crayons provided, Tim Andrew's House of Representatives Wall is comprised of a public coloring wallpaper that invites fair attendees to color the faces of the 27 House of Representatives of New York State. The work operates as an informal dialogue with authority and the people we choose to represent us.

THE COMPOUND
The Compound, a gallery space, agency and store founded in the Bronx by Set Free who serves as an outlet for innovation, imagination and creativity will be partnering with The Fair for a pop-up experience. They will be showcasing a limited edition print by kaNO, Collectible Toys, and the 7 Hats Collab with Carmelo Anthony.

Additionally, to celebrate the May the Fourth (Be With You) holiday, on Saturday, May 4th, The Compound will re-release Compound x Ron English x Made By Monsters spin-off of English’s ‘Police Grin' a 10” themed toy collectible available for purchase at The Fair.

HANDPOKED TATTOOS: BLUESTONE BABE X SEALEGACY ORIGINAL DESIGNS
Brooklyn-based tattoo artist Rosa 'Bluestone Babe' Perr creates handpoked tattoos with her beautiful and unique designs. Tattoos start at $100 and are on a first come, first served basis. Special for The Fair, Bluestone Babe will have underwater-inspired designs in honor of SeaLegacy, The Other Art Fair Brooklyn's official charity partner, with 30% of profits going to the non-profit.

PLASTIC PAPER
Plastic Paper is a project by Placeholder, the multidisciplinary design and brand studio of Sho Shibuya, based in Brooklyn. The project celebrates under-appreciated daily design while raising awareness around plastic waste. Plastic Paper is primarily a photography book, but also features collaborative products with artists and brands, all in direct support of the Parley Foundation's plastic clean-up initiative.
